She picked her phone and dialed his number, but he wasn’t picking. She tried it again and this time, it went through.
“Hello,” his voice came up.”
“Can you come over after work?” She asked.
“Well, I don’t mind, what’s the occasion?” He asked.
“God sent me your exam results already.” She told him and laughed.
“Should I be scared?”
“May be you should be. A little bit scared.” She told him and laughed again.
“I am coming over now.” He told her and she could almost hear his footsteps as he ran.
“Easy.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t fall.”
“Okay, see you soon.” She told him and dropped the call.
Soon, Mary heard a knock on the door. She knew it was him and rushed out. She opened the door and for the first time, Mary noticed how handsome the man was. His caramel skin colour was noticeable. He had the finest fingers she had ever seen, even his dyestyma made a whole lot of sense. He was well built and his full hair stood in perfect coiffure. Mary wondered if he was a designer or a barber per excellence. His own look said it all.
They were a perfect synch, their smile said a lot. The gestures gave them away, it was like the two had been together for ages.
“Hi,” he greeted.
“Hi,”
The two gave each other a long stare and began to laugh. Andrew knew what the laughter meant. It was a yes. He nudged her into the house and hugged her tight.”
“Thank you.” He told her now holding her and looking into her eyes.
“No, thank you.” She told him. “You are such a blessed man and I am lucky to have you all to myself.”
“Yes. I am blessed because of you.” He told he and chuckled. Mary was glad Joshua was out of the house and so was her mother. She had began to spend so much time with Kojo, a Neighbour down the street that Mary was beginning to think there was more to it.
“Let’s go out.” He told her.
“And your shop?”
“Employed two guys to help with the work there.”
“Wow! Look who is the CEO.” She mused at him and he laughed.
She wasted no time in changing into something nice as they both stepped out. It was a beautiful day and Andrew was not going to let it go to waste. He couldn’t admire the woman any less once she stepped out. She was a sight to behold.
“Congratulations! You have just been promoted to lead the company’s data analysts. So you will be in charge of the other analyst in our other branches.”
Mary couldn’t hear the woman anymore as far as she was concerned. Her heart was racing. Was she really promoted? It had just been a year. Had she been that good or was God just a prayer answering God. She remembered she had prayed asking for help. The bills were piling up. Joshua had to return to school after the few months of break, her mother had medications to take and there was the foodstuff part and other bills, plus her upkeep and savings. She just stared at the woman with joy.
“Here, your letter,” the woman handed her letter of promotion.
Thank you ma. Thank you.”
“Your official car will be brought in soon. You will have to travel a lot to our other branches so a car for you is a necessity.” The woman explained.
“Thank you very much ma. Thank you so much.” She told her and made her way out of the woman’s office. Biola was the first person that hugged her once she was out.
“Babe! Congratulations!” She told her almost yelping.
“Thank you!” She told her. “I can’t wait to tell Andrew about this.”
“Abeg, who be Andrew?” She asked her wearing a frown.
“My fiancé. Don’t tell me you have forgotten about him so soon?”
