“What happened?” Andrew’s voice came up on the phone. He had to tell him what he had just done. Picked up his ex from her boyfriend’s house and brought her to the hospital.

“She was in a pool of blood, Andrew. Her ex stabbed her and…and…”

“And what?” His voice came up again. “And what?”

“He raped her.” He blotted.

“What? How did that wvn happen? How did you find out? What is going on with her right now?”

“Hey, hey, I don’t know more than what the doctor said. Andrew, I was wondering why he would do such a thing. She was still dating him until yesterday evening.” He said in sarcasm.

“She is not like that Mark.” He defended her.

“Abeggi. Yet she followed a guy for money and left you, you my dude.”

“Are you still in the hospital?”

“I don’t understand. Na me born her? I did my bit, man. Paid her bills, called her family and left. Wetin be my own, am I the rapist?”

“You cannot talk like that. She is my friend and I am my best friend.”

“That was before you became CEO, now SUMAL documents are your best friend. Abi, check it, since the last time you left, you haven’t stepped Nigeria and I have legit been running things for you here. Thank God there’s Emem, if not, the office will suffer.”

“Just don’t talk about her like that, please.”

“Andrew, it is my airtime, my phone, my house, I can say anything I want to say, abeg.”

Mark waited for a reply from the other side, but it didn’t come. He only heard his friend and brother exhale .

“Don’t tell me you are about to do what I think?”

“I am coming back to Nigeria.”

“For?”

“For a friend of course.” Andrew told him.

“Andrew, I know we are brothers and we respect each other and all, but, wait, you dey craze?

“So what are you going to tell Alicia? You just found that lady after spending so much time apart?”

“The truth. I have personal business to settle.”

“Don’t come here, I beg you.” He told him, but it was obvious his mind was made up.

“Mark, could you send me the address of the hospital?”

“Yes I can, but no, I won’t.”

“Okay, I know how to get it. Thanks.” He told Mark and dropped the call.

Joshua hated the smell of drugs, but he had no choice, his sister was there. Sick and wounded. He had insisted their mother went home to prevent her from crying and whining about her daughter’s condition.

It was past 9 pm, Helen arrived with her fiancé holding food for the siblings, she walked into the hospital frowning. She couldn’t believe Mary could be this daft and shallow. For the umpteenth time, she had not been able to wrap her head around the mess that had just happened.

“Babe, babe smile now.” Paul pleaded following after her holding another bag containing warm water and other drinks.

“And why should I? Why should I pretend to be happy with her when I am not?”

“Because she is sick?”

“And did I cause it?” She parched back at him

“Babe, easy on her, easy.”

“Look, lover, you don’t understand.” She stood still looking up to his large figure as people passed by them either going into or out of the hospital.

“How could she do this? Really? Wisdom is a nightmare any day, anytime. She knew this yet, she became his prey again. Really? Yes, we lost touch, she wasn’t talking to me as much as she did at some point, but I remember she used to be the bigger girl, Paul. She used to be the bigger girl in Jesus, whatever happened to all her super amazing sense!” She yelled and wept. Paul hugged her quickly. He knew she was hurt, stopping her from saying how she felt was going to be bad news.
