Once she was done praying, a knock came on the door.

“Yes, who is there?” She asked tilting towards the door like her question was going to open it.

“It’s Andrew, ma.” Her daughter’s ex announced. She jerked up and opened the door quickly.

“Andrew,” she called calmly and dragged the man inside the house like she had been waiting for him. “Forgive me, forgive me for misleading Mary. I am sorry.” The woman apologized without even knowing that things had changed. “Are you here to reconcile?” She asked him.

“Ummm, I am actually…ummm…” he was going to pick his next words carefully when suddenly they heard a loud noise from inside the room. It was Mary. Andrew led the way, he sped towards the room and pushed the door open without even thinking twice. Mary laid on the floor writhing in pain. She held her stomach tightly and beside her was a bottle of shaving powder.

“Shaving powder ke? Mary! Mary!” The woman kept yelling. She had not even seen what Andrew had seen. Mary had not only poisoned herself, she had also cut her own wrist. It was obvious she was head bent on dying. The blood began to drip on her white top as she turned and twisted. She was chubby and fully endowed, nevertheless, Andrew lifted her off the floor and with the maximum speed he could afford while carrying her, he ran outside the house into his car. He had brought a different car this time, not the SUV.

What was Mary thinking? He thought and kept panting. Mary’s mother knocked the window to the car, she wasn’t going to let them do this without her again. Yes, she had high blood pressure and everyone was trying to keep her safe, but for once in her life, she wanted to be a good mother. Andrew intuitively opened the door for her. She flew in muttering prayers as they drove to the hospital.

“She will be needing blood transfusion ASAP.” The doctor told them.

“I am O+. I am a general donor.” Andrew announced.

“Okay, come with me.” The doctor told him and led the way. Mary’s mother tried going with them, but Andrew stopped her.

“Relax here, I will soon be back.” That was all the woman had seen of Andrew and then she sat there all by herself until Helen arrived and then an hour became two, and two hours passed before he came out looking weak and holding a bottle of Malta Guinness drink. He could barely greet Helen whose number he had gotten from Joshua and had simply told to come over. The two women quietly watched him in shock. Helen brought out the flask of food she brought for her friend and handed it over to him. He needed strength and she wanted to be of help.

He needed some sleep for sure and there was no way he was going to sleep there. He brought out his phone and called Mark to come over. The man showed up in minutes.

“Good afternoon ma,” he greeted the women sitting down and then helped Andrew up on his feet.

“I will be back in the evening.” He managed to tell them.

“Where are you taking him to?” Helen asked. Mark was trying to suppress the anger he felt.

“Home,” he told her and continued walking out.

“I will be back.” Andrew announced again.

Mark looked away immediately. He was going to ensure that didn’t happen. He wasn’t Jesus Christ and there was no way he was going to watch him die for the sins and problems of another man.

“Bye, ma.” Mark told them emphatically as a sign that he wasn’t coming back. He was going to make sure of it. Their daughter and friend had done enough and he was not having it any longer.
