“I am sister zoning you. You think you are the only one that knows how to brother zone people…” they bantered as they finally dug into their food and ate.
Mary had not felt such peace in a long while, yet she knew leaving Wisdom was going to be a hard decision.
Mark’s car pulled over in front of the house. Once it lights were turned off, Wisdom turned on his car light to tell Mary he was waiting for her.
“Eh, Jesus!” Mary called fearfully.
“What is it?” Andrew asked.
“Wisdom,” she answered.
“Oh, that’s his name. Well, I am not going to trade hugging you tonight for anything.” He drew her close and hugged her. Mary couldn’t help but laugh.
“Oh! Thank you for making my grave deeper.” Mary told him.
“No one is dying. At least, not tonight. By the way, prepare your CV. I will talk to Mark, he is a boss in one of these big offices around.”
“Are you serious?” She asked happily.
“Yes. I am.” Mary hugged him again. This time with too much joy.
“Wait until you get the job before you break my neck so that you can at least foot the hospital bills.” He told her and they both laughed.
By this time, Wisdom had stepped out of the car and stood right in front of his car with the light still on. He looked like he was going to get Andrew and eat him raw.
“Okay, I think I may have to take you in myself. Andrew told her and opened his car door. Mary opened hers too fearfully, but he signaled her to stay still. He went over to her side and opened the door for her. She stepped out and he pecked her. Mary was shocked.
“What was that for?” She asked him.
“For a peaceful night.” He said and held her hand. For a moment, everything around Mary stopped existing. She walked beside the man, as he escorted her into the house, Wisdom’s angry eyes following after them. Once she was inside, Mary rushed to the window to see what would happen next.
Just as she thought. Wisdom stopped Andrew halfway, pierced him up and and down with his eyes and retreated into his car angrily. Andrew simply entered his friend’s car and drove off too. Mary sighed in relief.
“Where have you been? Wisdom has been waiting for you.” Her mother’s voice came behind her. Mary sat back on the cushion but said no word to her mother.
“I am talking to you!” Her voice came up again. This time, Mary picked her hand bag from where she dumped it on the floor and walked into her room without saying a word.
“Get out!” Wisdom’s voice came up loud and mercilessly. He had come with some men to throw them out of the house. He was that angry and it was obvious he wasn’t going to spare them.
“Have you seen what you caused? Have you? You this thoughtless child. I warned you not to offend him, I warned you not to offend him oo.” Her mother kept yelling into her ears.
“Aunty Mary, what did we do this time around, ehn?”
“I don’t know!” She replied and it annoyed Wisdom. He moved close to her and dragged her by the hair. Joshua, her brother could not take it. He was twenty and had all the manly features, but he also couldn’t take Wisdom on and he knew it.
“Please stop!” He begged. “Don’t hurt my sister.” He kept crying, but Wisdom ignored him and added pressure to holding her hair.
“How dare you say you don’t know what you did? You, my property, my woman, you stood here yesterday, hugged and even kissed another man in front of me.” He shouted into her ear.
“I am not your property and no good man would treat their women like this. For your information, that man that dropped me off was only a friend and I am sure you know he didn’t kiss me, it was only a peck.”
“I don’t care! No man touches you in front of me! No man!”
“Fine! Take it all, all of it!” Mary yelled, collected herself from him angrily, and unzipped her bag, she poured out the clothes he had bought for her, handbags, and jewelry.
“You can have them all and go. Get out of my life, get out of my face, I am tired!” Mary cried.
